Connect the cable to the USB/FireWire 800
(IEEE1394b) jack of this unit.

Notes
If the power/access lamp does not light up, check that the cable is
connected correctly.
Do not connect USB cable and FireWire 800 cable (interfaces)
at the same time. When changing interface, disconnect this unit
from the computer first.
Check the package for details on the factory default file
system.
When initializing to a different format, download and
install Memory Media Utility, which is available at the
following URL.
http://www.sony.net/mmu
In FAT32 format, files of 4 GB or more cannot be stored.
It may take a few seconds or a few tens of seconds for the
personal computer to recognize this unit.
Caution
Initializing this unit will delete ALL data stored on it. If
the stored data is in this unit, back up the data.
Disconnecting this Unit from
the Computer
In this section, we describe the procedure for disconnecting this
unit from the computer while the computer is switched on.
Make sure the access lamp on this unit is lit.
Windows users

Click (Windows 8/Windows 7) in the
notification area at the bottom right of the
desktop.
The devices currently connected to the computer appear on
the screen.

Click on this unit.

Wait until the message “Safe to Remove
Hardware” appears.
4
Disconnect the cable from the computer.
Mac users
1
Drag and drop this unit’s icon on the desktop
into [Trash].

Disconnect the cable from the computer.
Notes on Use
This unit is a precision instrument. Saved data may be lost due to
sudden failure. As a precaution against possible failure, periodically
save the data in this unit elsewhere. Sony will not repair, restore or
replicate recorded contents under any circumstances.
Furthermore, Sony shall not be responsible for any damage to or
loss of recorded data for any cause.
Power saving functions of the computer such as standby,
hibernate, sleep, suspend and resume may not be able to be used.
Do not install any software in this unit. Some software such
as game software may not run properly because the programs
executed when starting up the OS cannot be found.
When this unit and other USB/FireWire 800 devices are
connected to a computer at the same time, the transfer speed of
this unit may become slower.
You may be unable to use this unit if it is connected to equipment
via a USB/FireWire 800 hub. If this happens, reconnect this unit
directly to the USB/FireWire 800 port of the equipment.
Do not connect a wrong cable to this unit, which may damage
the socket.
Do not remove this unit from the computer while writing,
reading or deleting data. Doing so may damage the data.
If this unit is still connected to the computer in the following
situations, the computer may not operate correctly.
When you start or restart the computer.
When the computer enters sleep or hibernation, or restored
from either.
Disconnect this unit from the computer before doing these
operations.
If this unit is not recognized by the computer or host device you
are using, remove this unit, shutdown or restart your computer or
host device, and try plugging this unit again.
Our product warranty is limited only to the Portable Storage
itself, when used normally in accordance with these operating
instructions and with the accessories that were included with
this unit in the specified or recommended system environment.
Services provided by the Company, such as user support, are also
subject to these restrictions.
The performance of this unit cannot be guaranteed if you do not
use the supplied cable.
The data in this unit is not completely deleted by “Format” or
“Delete”. Before handing over or disposing of this unit, delete data
on your own responsibility by using a commercially available data
deleting application or physically destroying this unit.
This unit is compliant with FireWire daisy chain connection.
However, the FireWire port of the computer must be able
to supply enough power for a connected device to function
normally.
Handling this unit
Do not use or store this unit in the following locations. Doing so
may cause this unit to malfunction.
Somewhere extremely hot, cold or humid
Never leave this unit exposed to high temperature, such as in
direct sunlight, near a heater, or inside a closed car in summer.
Doing so may cause this unit to malfunction or become
deformed.
Locations at low pressure (3,000 m (approx. 9,842 ft.) or more
above sea-level or 0.5 atmospheres or less) (PSZ-H

Splash-proof and dust-proof performance
The supplied USB and FireWire 800 (IEEE1394b) cables and hard
case do not have splash-proof or dust-proof specifications.
Splash-proof
Under the international standard IEC/EN60529 rating system,
this unit has splash-proof specifications equivalent to IPX4, which
means it has a level of protection against water getting inside, but
it is not completely waterproof. Do not use it underwater or where
it will get very wet. Its splash-proof performance is only achieved
with the port cover firmly closed.
Depending on the way this unit is used, there is a danger of water
getting inside and leading to fire, electric shock, or malfunction.
IPX4 (waterproof test)
The product is protected against droplets of water hitting it
from all directions.

使用上のご注意
本機は精密機器です。突然の故障等の理由によってデータが
消失する場合があります。万一の場合に備えて定期的にバッ
クアップを行ってください。弊社では、いかなる場合におい
ても記録内容の修復／復元／再現などはいたしません。また、
記録内容の破損／消失についてはいかなる原因であっても一
切その責任は負いかねます。
スタンバイ、休止、スリープ、サスペンド、レジュームなどの
パソコンの省電力機能はご使用いただけない場合がありま
す。
本機にソフトウェアをインストールしないでください。
OS
起動時に実行されるプログラムが見つからなくなる等の理
由により、ゲームソフトなどのソフトウェアが正常に利用
できない場合があります。
本機と他の

機器を同時にパソコンに接
続して使う場合は以下の点にご注意ください。
本機の転送速度が遅くなることがあります。

パソコンを起動、または再起動する。
スリープや休止状態に移行、または復帰させる。
パソコンの動作状況によっては、本機を接続した際に正常
に認識しない場合があります。パソコンが起動した直後の
状態で、改めて本機の差し直しを行ってください。
付属の製品保証書は本機限定のもので、本機の取扱説明書
に従った通常のご使用時、または本機の純正付属品、または
必要動作環境／推奨動作環境でのご使用時に限られます。
ユーザーサポートなどの各種サービスも上記の前提で提供
するものです。

お手入れについて

乾いた柔らかい布、または水をかたくしぼった布で軽く拭
いてください。
アルコール、シンナー、ベンジンなどは使わないでくださ
い。変質したり、塗装がはげたりすることがあります。
化学ぞうきんをご使用の際は、色落ちや変色する場合があ
りますので、ご注意ください。
殺虫剤のような揮発性のものをかけたり、ゴムやビニール
製品に長時間接触させると、変質したり、塗装がはげたりす
ることがあります。
液体状の洗剤などは使用しないでください。本機の内部に
入って、故障の原因となることがあります。

Dust-proof
Under the international standard IEC/EN60529 rating system, this
unit has dustproof specifications equivalent to IP5X, which means
it has a level of protection against foreign matter getting inside, but
it is not completely dustproof. Its dustproof performance is only
achieved with the port cover firmly closed.
In addition, its dustproof performance does not guarantee against
damage.
IP5X (dust-proof, dust test)
The product is protected sufficiently to maintain a certain
level of operation and safety even if the dust particles used in
the dust test (75 m in diameter) enter it.
Shockproof performance
Although this unit has undergone drop tests complying with
MIL-STD-810G, we cannot guarantee against damage to recorded
data or the exterior case in all situations and conditions. Do not
deliberately drop it or subject it to impact.
High temperature of this unit
While using this unit, the main body of this unit becomes hot.
This is not a malfunction. Depending on the operating status, their
temperature may rise to 40 °C or higher. Touching them for a long
time in this condition may cause a low temperature burn.
Maintenance
Disconnect the cable from the personal computer first, and from
this unit before maintenance.
Wipe this unit with a soft dry cloth or a well wrung out wet cloth.
Do not use alcohol, thinner, benzine, etc. These may degrade or
damage the surface.
Using a chemical cleaning cloth on this unit may cause its color
to fade or change.
Using a volatile solvent like an insecticide, or keeping this unit in
contact with rubber or vinyl plastic products for a long time may
cause deterioration or damage to this unit.
Do not use a liquid solvent etc. Liquid may get inside this unit
and cause it to malfunction.

Remarques sur l’emploi
Cet appareil est un instrument de précision. Les données

aucun cas réparer, restaurer les données enregistrées ou en restituer

Les fonctions d’économie d’énergie de l’ordinateur, comme
l’attente, l’hibernation, la veille, la suspension et la reprise peuvent

Notas sobre la utilización
Esta unidad es un instrumento de precisión. Los datos almacenados
pueden perderse debido a un fallo repentino. Como precaución
contra un posible fallo, almacene periódicamente los datos de esta
